Guatemala: Memory and Timeless Avant-Garde - Imago Mundi
Contemporary Artists from Guatemala
Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection
Texts by Luciano Benetton, David Urbina, Thelma Castillo, Diego Ventura Puac-Coyoy
Amid archaic roots and artistic interest in the new, ancient harmony and uncomfortable controversy, myth and reality, 142 works tell the story of the extraordinary creativity of Guatemala. Perhaps the merit of the wealth of contrasts and connections of a land in which 22 cultures and languages still coexist. Undoubtedly the merit of the Mayan tradition and spiritual wisdom that invites us to look inside things, to recognize the life that pulsates in every animal or object. An ability to seek, hear, see and represent, that is common to all the painters, sculptors, designers, engravers, artists specialized in installations, in performance art, object art and video art who accepted Imago Mundi’s invitation.
Guatemala: Memory and Timeless Avant-Garde. Contemporary Artists from Guatemala is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.
