Contemporary Artists from Oman
Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection

Texts by Luciano Benetton, Maryam Al Abdulkarim Zadjaly, Moataz El Safty

One hundred and sixty works exemplifying a passionate, courageous, proud and generous artistic vision. For the Imago Mundi project this is a new piece in the great mosaic of contemporary world art that is taking shape year after year. And for the artists of the Sultanate it provides an effective opportunity to achieve visibility and at the same time promote the colours and poetry of Oman across the world. Landscapes, portraits of women, representations of animals, architectural perspectives, traditional viewpoints, offer us a complex and somewhat surprising aesthetic universe, one that is not averse to forays into the abstract, leaps of innovation, Islamic spirituality, the magic of the Levant and visual experimentation. The colours of the works often seduce thanks to the deft completeness with which they saturate the eye and convey the piercing sweetness of sunset in the desert. Skilfully and creatively causing us to question whether what we are seeing is, in fact, reality or a mirage.

Experiments. Contemporary Artists from Oman is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.
