A special collection that Imago Mundi presents with the aim of giving voice and image to the art of two peoples of the Saharan Desert: the Tuareg, today more than ever marginalized and divided by the political boundaries of five states (Algeria, Libya, Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali) and the Saharawi people, who for over 40 years have survived in exile on a strip of Algerian desert, waiting for an agreement between Morocco and the Polisario Front to invoke an historic referendum of self-determination. 140 canvases that together celebrate the beauty and the tragedy of the desert, the pride and the suffering of its people, their disillusionment and hope, sense of abandonment and of belonging, their pride in the struggle and aspirations for freedom. A different perspective - interesting and astute - on a world apart; a world that is nonetheless our concern, because it is also our world.

Artists from the Sahara is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.
