Contemporary Artists from Nigeria
Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection

Texts by Luciano Benetton, Ayo Adewunmi, Moataz El-Safty, Oriano Mabellini

A portrait of the first African economy through its contemporary visual culture and the work of 210 established and emerging Nigerian artists. A lively and sophisticated tapestry of techniques, inspirations, schools - figurative and abstract; naturalism and the avant-garde; conceptual and Arte Povera - which recalls and mixes the many painting, decorative and plastic traditions of a nation populated by 250 ethnic groups. A collection that reveals to the world how Nigeria is at the forefront in communicating (and representing) Africa outside Africa, and how its expressive creativity knows no bounds.

Nigeria / Roots. Contemporary Artists from Nigeria is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12cm format.

www.imagomundiart.com is the web platform of the entire project
