Contemporary Artists from the Democratic Republic of Congo
Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection
Texts by Luciano Benetton, Enrico Mascelloni, Charles Tumba Kekwo, Patrick Missassi Kabwith
Hopes and torments, memories of colonialism and the uncertainties of democracy, naive freshness and digital harshness. Imago Mundi pays homage to the artists of the Democratic Republic of Congo and their daily challenges in the search for recognition in the ring of local and international creativity. 140 works by an artistic community committed to reconciling its own cultural roots with the developments of modernity and the contemporary dimension in an extraordinary richness and variety of techniques, materials, languages. A flowering of styles able to concentrate in this vast, divided country, rich in raw materials to the point of overflowing and marked by terrible tragedies in recent times, special artistic forms that are, for all, a lesson in diversity.
Democratic Republic of Congo: The Giant is Awake is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12cm format.
