Contemporary Artists from Djibouti, Central African Republic and Chad
Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection

Texts by Luciano Benetton, Enrico Mascelloni, Rachel Pieh Jones, Paolo Prina & Tiziana Russo

A new stage on Imago Mundi’s artistic journey that brings together the creativity of three Central African countries. An effective synthesis of the landscapes, culture and humanity of Africa, reflected in the collection of 140 10x12 cm works by artists from Chad, the Central African Republic and Djibouti. The collection captures the unbroken thread of courageous humanity and an artistic passion that is capable of overcoming – as the curators highlight in their introductions - perilous political, bureaucratic and logistical obstacles.  It is a collection that surprises in many ways and bears witness to a desire to open to the world and to communicate with the universal language of art, so familiar and yet each time so different. In the hope that artistic equality can be rapidly followed by human and social equality.

Art that breaks the isolation. Contemporary Artists from Djibouti, Central African Republic and Chad is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.
